Sea Spa: Proven?al Pampering at Terre Blanche Spa, C?te d'Azur
by Stewart Campbell
Where is the Terre Blanche Hotel?
Tucked away in the pine-covered hills of Provence above the C?te d’Azur, away from the fleshpot coastal towns packed with baking tourists and people who Instagram their lunch, this much-loved hideout is not a place to be “seen”. This is what makes it the perfect spot to recover after a little over-indulgence at sea.
What's it Like?
Hidden by fragrant gardens, elegant suites are housed within Proven?al stone-walled houses. However, it's the outdoor perks of the resort, which includes one of the best coastal golf courses in the Med, that are more likely to pique guests' interests. If you fancy working out your excesses on the golf course, you’ve come to the right place. Two world-class championship courses, with peerless views over the rolling landscape, encircle the hotel, while Europe’s only “Biomecaswing Centre” is available in the comprehensive golf range and training centre. You don’t need to know what Biomecaswing means – just trust that it will diagnose and treat any problems with your golf swing, all under the watchful eye of expert Jean-Jacques Rivet.
For guests visiting this summer between June 24-27, make sure not to miss the third edition of the Monaco US Celebrity Golf Cup, which will be hosted at Terre Blanche. Presented by HSH Prince Albert II, the tournament will see celebrity sports stars, chefs and philanthropists tee off in order to raise funds for The Ryder Cup European Development Trust which supports the development of youth golf.
Treatments at the Terre Blanche Spa
After the full 18 holes you can seek solitude in the French design-inspired spa, which sits in its own bastide just a short pine-scented stroll away from the main building. It is centred around a column-lined indoor pool that has a cathedral-worthy vaulted ceiling and skylights that allow light to flood in. Continue the golf theme with the 90-minute signature massage where a masseuse will use balls to ease muscle tension. Using a similar technique to a traditional bamboo massage, a stick with golf balls attached will be rolled up and down your body to work away muscle knots. Once you are feeling back on par you can either venture back out on to the course or saunter to sea level and rejoin the party.
Terre Blanche Dining
If a day on the green or swimming laps in the spa pool has worked up your appetite, then rest assured you'll also be able to indulge in the best of French cuisine at Terre Blanche. The resort's Michelin-starred restaurant Le Faventia is romantically situated on a breezy terrace that overlooks the surrounding scenic countryside. Dishes served up by Chef Philippe Jourdin are inspired by seasonal ingredients provided by the local soil - expect to see Moulin de Callas olive oil and goats’ cheese produced by the Montéiro family on the menu. Pair your meal with one of the 400 varieties of local and global wines stocked in the cellar.
Best by Boat
Terre Blanche is a pleasant 45-minute drive from Cannes. Moor up in the Vieux Port and get your captain to call you an Uber or take the chopper and land on its helipad.
